On 2 August 2006 a joint patrol by B TM 1-37 AR and Naval Special Warfare Task Unit Ramadi attacked a group of Al Qaeda in Iraq insurgents in a house in the the heart of Ramadi. As they cleared one of the buildings, Marc was struck and killed by enemy fire. He has the sad distinction of being the first Navy SEAL killed in action during OIF.
