SGT Edward Shaffer of B/1-36 IN died of wounds while undergoing treatment at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio on 27 December 2006. On 13 November 2006, Eddie was burned over more than 90% of his body when his Bradley Fighting Vehicle struck an IED near Combat Outpost Iron in Ramadi, Iraq. He suffered tremendously as the best care available tried to heal his ravaged body.
