The Alumni of the 37th Armored Regiment honor the noble sacrifice, selfless service, and life of our Brother:
SSG Emanuel L. Legaspi
B Co 1-36 Infantry attached to TF 2-37 Armor
Born: 2 Sep 1967 in National Capital Region, Philippines
Killed in Action: 7 May 2006 (aged 38) in Talafar, Iraq
Burial: Palm Memorial Park Northwest, Las Vegas, Nevada
On the night of 7 May 2006, SSG Legaspi led his rifle squad on a patrol with his platoon in south western Tal Afar while attached to C/2-37 AR. During that patrol, the unit came under small arms fire from a strong point position inside of a two story residential home. Legaspi maneuvered his squad to cover and returned fire while tanks were brought forward to provide support. After firing multiple tank rounds into the strong point, the C/2-37 Commander led a team towards the house to clear it. Legaspi stopped him and insisted that he and his squad enter the house first. Legaspi was the first to enter the home and was struck by small arms fire in the doorway. His Soldiers pulled him out of the doorway and back to cover outside the house. C/37 then called in an air strike which destroyed the house and all five of the insurgents therein. SSG Legaspi died of wounds while waiting to be evacuated.
